Agricultural Educator Black Named Outstanding High School Announcer in South Carolina
COLUMBIA, SC…M. Pat Black, Jr., Agricultural Education teacher and FFA advisor at Branchville High School, has been named the Outstanding High School Sports Announcer in South Carolina, according to Brad Rumble, Executive Director of the National Sports Public Address Announcers.
“Announcing is about more than just having a good voice. It’s about passion, commitment and professionalism---qualities inherent in the really good announcers like Pat Black”, Rumble said.
“As the sports public address announcer for Orangeburg Prep School and other SC Independent School Athletic events for eight years, Pat Black is a stickler for preparation. Carrying a sound system in one hand and the roster of the players whose name’s he’s spent days in advance mastering their pronunciations in the other, Black takes his ‘labor of love’ seriously—even in a casual, care-free atmosphere like an all-star game”, said Thomas Grant, Jr., T &D sports writer.
Black was nominated for this prestigious award by Orangeburg Prep School athletic officials. “With as many good public address announcers as we have in South Carolina, it is quite an honor to be selected the announcer of the year. My initial reaction was of course pride, but also humility,” Black said.
