BLAND NAMED OUTSTANDING  AGRICULTURAL  EDUCATOR


Hugh Bland with Darla Simons, a former student and past president of the Strom Thurmond Technology Center FFA Chapter. Darla, a freshman at Clemson University majoring in Agricultural Education, presented the award to Mr. Bland at the Clemson University Collegiate FFA Organization Awards and Recognition Banquet in November 2004.

Hugh  M.  Bland   of   Edgefield,  Agricultural  Education  Teacher  at  Strom  Thurmond Technology  Center,  has  been  named  the  Outstanding  Agricultural Educator  in  South  Carolina   by  the  Clemson  University  Collegiate  FFA  Organization.

Bland,  a  graduate  of  Clemson  University  with  BS  and  MS  Degrees   in   Agricultural  Education,  was  recognized  for  having coached   five  State  FFA  Star  Farmers, one  State  FFA  Star  in  Agribusiness, a  Forestry  Team  that  placed   6th  in  the  National  Finals,  the  10th  placed  National  Nursery-Landscape  Team  and   participants  in   Agronomy,  Wildlife  and  Extemporaneous  Public  Speaking  National  Finals. 

He  has  coached  the  State  Young  Farmer-Agribusiness  Award  recipient,  the  Mid-state   Region  Outstanding  Young  Farmer  and  a  Regional   Agribusiness  Award  winner.  The  Edgefield  County  Young  Farmer-Agribusiness  Chapter  has  been  selected  the  Outstanding  Chapter  in  the  Mid-state  Region.

A  past  president  of   the  SC  Agricultural  Educators  Association,  Bland has  been   awarded  the   Honorary  State  FFA  Degree  and  the  Honorary  American  FFA  Degree.
