PROGRAM TOPS IN STATECLEMSON, SC…The Agricultural Education Department at B.J. Skelton Career Center in Easley, SC, has been named the Outstanding Program in South Carolina for 2010 by the SC Association of Agricultural Educators reports John W. Parris, state director of public affairs for the organization.
“The prestigious state award is designed to recognize the most successful Agricultural Education programs in the nation,” Parris said. “The outstanding programs are selected using a variety of criteria including teaching philosophy, effective classroom and experiential instruction, development of partnerships and professional growth,” he added.
Steve McCannon and Margaret Shelton serve as the Agricultural Education instructors and FFA advisors at the Center. Leonard Williams is the director of the Center and Dr. Henry Hunt is the superintendent of the School District of Pickens County.
“This recognition is a notable laurel to come to the Career Center and to the School District of Pickens County,” Mr. Parris said. “Agricultural Education programs have never been more important than today because there are more than 300 career opportunities in the business, science and technology of Agriculture available to students who are academically prepared for one of them at the high school and college level,” he emphasized.
