THURMOND FFA FORESTRY TEAM MEETS WITH UNDER SECRETARY OF AGRICULTURE
COLUMBIA, SC....The Thurmond Technology Center FFA
Forestry Team met with USDA Under Secretary Mark E. Rey at the annual meeting of
the South Carolina Timber Producers Association in Myrtle Beach, SC, recently,
according to Hugh Bland, Team Advisor and agricultural education teacher at
Thurmond Technology Center. Secretary Rey administers the US Forest Service and
the Natural Resources Conservation Service on the national level. They were
guests of the association at the state conference, Bland added.
The team received a Gold Emblem Award at the National FFA Convention in October
where they placed sixth in the National Forestry Finals. Team member Richard
Miller also won a $500 scholarship.
