INDIAN LAND FFA POULTRY TEAM TO COMPETE IN NATIONAL FINALS

The Indian Land High School FFA Poultry Team
took first place honors in the State Finals at Clemson University recently,
according to John W. Parris, State Director of Public Affairs with the SC FFA
Association.
"Team members Corey Newell, E. J. Wheeler, Matt Williams, Mike Stevens and Matt Gulledge along with their advisor and coach, Jerry Davis, Agricultural Education Teacher at Indian Land High School, were awarded expense-paid trips to the 2004 National FFA Convention set for October to compete in the National Finals", Parris said. Matt Williams was the High Individual Scorer in the state competition.
According to the South Carolina Agricultural Statistics Service, broiler production brings in more money than any other farm product in the state. It is estimated that cash receipts from broiler production is in excess of $400 million annually. There are also approximately 5.5 million laying hens in the state producing in excess of 1.4 billion eggs annually.
