NATIONAL FFA FOUNDATION TO AWARD $2
MILLION
IN COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS
The National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Foundation will award more than $2
million in college scholarships in 2004, according to John W. Parris, State
Director of Public Affairs for the SC FFA Association.
Scholarships, ranging from $500 to $10,000 each are available to FFA members who
are seniors in high school or, in some cases, college freshmen. The scholarships
are given for a wide variety of experiences, career goals or higher education
plans and may be used at colleges, universities and other post-secondary schools
. They are sponsored by numerous agricultural businesses and individuals through
the National FFA Foundation and new scholarships are added every year.
Applications must be postmarked by February 15, 2004 to be eligible for
consideration. Detailed information about the scholarships, including viewing
the Scholarship Guidebook and applications, is available by contacting the
National FFA Organization at
www.ffa.org/programs/scholarships or
Scholarships@ffa.org. FFA members interested in applying for a scholarship
should also contact the Agricultural Education Teacher/ FFA Advisor at their
local high school.
The major factors used in selecting recipients of the scholarships include: (1)
Academic Achievement including Grade Point Average, ACT or SAT Score and Class
Rank (Number 1 in Graduating Class equals one-third of the points in this
category) (2) Leadership in FFA an Community Activities; and (3) the student's
Supervised Agricultural Experience Program.
Scholarship recipients will be posted on the National FFA Web Page--
www.ffa.org on May 7, 2004.
The mission of the 460,000 member FFA Organization is to make a positive
difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier
leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
