COLUMBIA, SC….The Strom Thurmond Technology Center Team took first place honors in the State FFA Agronomy Finals held at Central Carolina Technology College in Sumter recently, according to John W. Parris, State Director of Public Affairs with the SC FFA Association.
Team members are Michele Miller who was the High Individual Scorer in the state competition; Jonathan Holmes, second high individual scorer; Ashley Doolittle, third high individual scorer; and Natalie Watson, the fifth high individual scorer.
The team members and their advisor, Hugh Bland, an agricultural education teacher at the center, were awarded expense-paid trips to the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky, in October, to compete in the National Agronomy Finals.
“The Agronomy Career Development Event in South Carolina is co-sponsored by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service as a special project of the SC FFA Association”, Parris said.
The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
