GOVERNOR’S MANSIONAiken High School Horticulture students who are FFA members and their advisor Joe Wilson, delivered beautiful Easter Lilies and other flowering plants to the Governor’s Mansion on Monday, March 21, for use in decorating the building and grounds. They were welcomed by Mary Ann Belser, Executive Assistant to First Lady Jenny Sanford.
The students and Mr. Wilson along with Billy Keels, State Director of Agricultural Education with Clemson University, and John W. Parris, State Director of Public Affairs with the SC FFA Association, toured the mansion following the presentation. “It is truly an inspiration to know that some of the plants we grew in our greenhouses on the school campus are at the Governor’s Mansion during the spring and summer”, Mr. Wilson said. “We are grateful to Mr. Parris for planning and coordinating this special opportunity to promote agricultural education and the FFA at such a unique and historic landmark”, he added.
This is the second year the Aiken FFA Chapter has provided plants to the mansion. Students Elizabeth Johnson, Lara Boyd, Megan Spivey, Amanda Bennington and Chad Pilgrim along Mr. and Mrs. Wilson and Billy Keels were luncheon guests of Mr. Parris at the Capital City Club in down-town Columbia.
