CAROLINA FOREST FFA TEAM TAKES TOP STATE HONORS

COLUMBIA, SC…The Carolina Forest High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) Tractor Operators Team took first place honors in the State Finals in Columbia recently, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA Association.

Team members Russ Boatwright , High Individual Scorer in the state event; Marcus Causey, Second High Scorer; Christian Draughn, Third High Individual Scorer; and Mickey Fulmer successfully outscored teams from high schools throughout the state. The team was coached by Harry Dubose, Horticulture Education Teacher and FFA Advisor at Carolina Forest along with Aaron Miles, a Clemson University senior majoring in Agricultural Education, who is practice teaching at Carolina Forest this semester.

“The purpose of the agricultural engineering-related competition is to provide students and opportunity to demonstrate their superb skill in operating a tractor and implement while practicing appropriate safety precautions”, Parris said. “In today’s mechanized world, tractors are significantly important in agricultural, construction, commercial, residential and recreational businesses”, he added.

Teaching individuals of all ages to properly operate a tractor in a safe manner is a continuing challenge and opportunity for high school agricultural education departments throughout the state.

The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth
