CLEMSON, SC….The Abbeville High School FFA Dairy Foods Team took first place honors in the State Competition at Clemson University recently, according to John W. Parris, State Director of Public Affairs with the SC FFA Association.
Team members Jacob Coursey, the high individual scorer in the state event; Ashley Hampton, second high scorer; Joey Gilliam, third high scorer and Caroline Sherard, fifth high individual scorer, along with their Advisor Fred Raines, Agricultural Education Teacher at Abbeville High School, were awarded expense-paid trips to the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Kentucky, to participate in the National Dairy Foods Finals later this year .
"A knowledge of dairy foods is a major part of the increasing emphasis on food science by agricultural education departments in secondary schools throughout the state”, Mr. Parris said.
The mission of the 477,000 member FFA Organization is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
