STROM THURMOND FFA ENVIROTHON TEAM TAKES TOP STATE HONORS
COLUMBIA, SC… The Strom Thurmond Technology Center FFA Team took first place honors in the South Carolina Envirothon held at Clemson University’s Sandhill Research and Education Center near Columbia, SC, May 6, 2005, according to John W. Parris, State Director of Public Affairs with the SC FFA Association.
Team members Russell Henderson, Bettis Rainsford, Aaron Ingle, Richard Miller and Drew Cheatham were each presented a medallion and a $500 college scholarship. Team Coach Hugh Bland, Agricultural Education Teacher and an FFA Advisor at the Technology Center , received a $500 cash award.
The team and their advisor were also awarded an all expenses-paid trip to the International Cannon-sponsored Envirothon scheduled July 18-24 at the Southwest Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri.
“Winning the very competitive and scientific State Envirothon is a notable laurel to come to the Strom Thurmond Technology Center FFA Chapter”, Mr. Parris said. “This prestigious accomplishment speaks volumes about the outstanding FFA members and Agricultural and Natural Resource Educators in South Carolina”, he added.
The Envirothon is conducted by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and co-sponsored by Cannon and a number of natural resource agencies and groups.
