YORK COUNTY FFA MEMBERS COMPETE IN SWINE SHOW AND SALE

COLUMBIA, SC… FFA members from the Floyd D. Johnson Technology Center in York, Clover High School and Fort Mill High School participated in the recent York County Swine Show and Sale held at the Chester County Livestock Exchange Center, according to John W. Parris, State Director of Public Affairs with the SC FFA Association.

Jesse Miskelly, a member of the York FFA Chapter and a student at Clemson University majoring in Agricultural Education, showed the Reserve Grand Champion animal.

Another York FFA member, Jacob Whitesides, showed the first place animal in the Average Daily Gain Class. Other York FFA members who participated in the Show and Sale include Emily Nance, Hannah Canipe, Candice Comer, Rebecca Keller, Chad Whitesides and Samuel Hall. Frank Sandifer is the FFA Advisor at the Floyd D. Johnson Technology Center in York.

Fort Mill FFA members Michelle Mosier and Katie Crouch showed in the Senior Showmanship Class and the Lightweight Class. Michelle’s animal weighted 265 pounds and was 4 th overall in Average Daily Gain category. Her animal was purchased by AgSouth in Rock Hill, SC, for $1.18 per pound. Katie’s animal weighted 220 pounds and was bought by Jimmy Price with Lakeview Farm in Fort Mill, SC., at 1.24 per pound. Carrie C. Bolin is the FFA Advisor at Fort Mill High School.

Clover FFA members Blair Long and Blake Long showed animals in the Senior Showmanship Division and the Heavy Weight Division. John Petty showed in the Senior Showmanship Division and the Light Weight Division.

Blair Long’s animal placed 4 th overall in the Average Daily Gain category. It weighed 275 pounds and sold for $1.21 per pound. John Petty’s animal weighed 225 pounds and sold for $1.80 per pound. Blake Long raised two animals. He showed one weighing 230 pounds that sold for $1.18 per pound and another one that weighed 220 pounds which brought $1.07 per pound. Chris Edge is the FFA Advisor at Clover High School.
