INDIAN LAND POULTRY TEAM TAKES TOP STATE HONORS

CLEMSON, SC….The Indian Land High School FFA Poultry Evaluation Team took first place honors in the State Finals held at Clemson University recently, according to John W. Parris , state director of public affairs with the SC FFA Association.

Team members Stephanie Creech, second high individual scorer in the state event; Kayla Garris, Scott Craton and David Wilson along with Jerry Davis, Agricultural Education Teacher and FFA Advisor , were awarded expense-paid trips to the National FFA Convention in Louisville, KY., to compete in the National Finals later this year.

“Indian Land High School’s Agricultural Education Department and others throughout the state include poultry production in their curriculum because of its economic importance to the agricultural industry,” Parris said. “According to South Carolina Agricultural Statistical Service Reports, broiler production is the number one agricultural commodity in the state, accounting for 23 percent of the total annual farm income,” he added.

The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
