COLUMBIA, SC…..The Strom Thurmond Technology Center FFA Tractor Operators Team was named the Mid-state Region Champions in the FFA-sponsored Competition held in Chester County recently, according to John W. Parris, State Director of Public Affairs with the SC FFA Association. The team will compete in the State Finals later this month in Columbia.
Team members Wade Hastings, the High Individual Scorer in the multi-county event; Billy Bledsoe, fourth High Individual Scorer; Tyler Holmes and Josh Mims out-scored teams from Lexington, Richland, Union, York, Chester, Lancaster and Saluda Counties to take the top honors. Dan Henderson, an Agricultural Education Teacher and FFA Advisor at the Strom Thurmond Technology Center, is the team advisor.
Derrick Equipment Company of Ridge Spring provided the tractors for the students to use in preparation for the regional competition.
“The purpose of this agricultural engineering-related competition is to provide students an opportunity to demonstrate their superb skill in operating a tractor while practicing appropriate and adequate safety precautions”, Parris said.
The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
