BURNS WINS STATE BEEF SCHOLARSHIP

COLUMBIA, SC….Cameron Burns of Pendleton, SC, Secretary of the Pendleton High School FFA Chapter, was awarded a $2500 college scholarship by the South Carolina Farm Bureau Federation at the 2004 State Fair for her superb accomplishments in beef cattle production and showmanship, according to John W. Parris, State Director of Public Affairs with the SC FFA Association.
Competition for the scholarship included a written test on beef cattle production, showmanship skills, livestock judging and an interview with a beef cattle judge from Kansas State University and other beef cattle professionals.
In addition to winning the prestigious scholarship, Cameron showed the Grand Champion Gelbvieh and the Calf Champion in the Junior Beef Competition. She also showed the Calf Champion Simmental and the Reserve Calf Champion Simmental.
At the Anderson County Fair, she showed the Grand Champion Simmental and Reserve Champion Simmental. She also showed the Reserve Champion Crossbred. She also won the Senior Simmental Showmanship Award and won the Anderson County Cattlemen’s $300 college scholarship.
In addition to her activities in the FFA, she is an Honor Roll student at Pendleton High School where she plays volleyball and softball.
Cameron is the daughter of Gary and Sarah Burns of Pendleton. Her brother, Matthew, a former outstanding FFA member, is president of the Block and Bridle Club at Clemson University.
Garrett Howard, Agricultural Education Teacher at Pendleton High School, is Cameron’s FFA Advisor.
