STATE FFA OFFICERS AT LEXINGTON COUNTY PEACH FESTIVAL
State FFA Vice President Jennifer Perkins of Conway, SC, immediate past president of the Myrtle Beach FFA Chapter, and State FFA Secretary Josh T. O’Rear, immediate past president of the Aiken FFA Chapter, represented the South Carolina FFA Association at the Lexington County Peach Festival in Gilbert, Saturday, July 3.
They rode in the 100-plus unit Festival Parade in a convertible driven by Derrick Cooper, Gilbert FFA Advisor. The Gilbert FFA Chapter had an attractive float pulled by a tractor driven by immediate past president Bryan Smith. The 2004 State winning FFA Livestock Team from Gilbert followed in another float.
The State FFA Officers and Gilbert FFA President Derek Oswald attended the Dignitaries Luncheon with US Congressman Joe Wilson, Lt. Governor Andre Bauer, State Superintendent of Education Inez Tenenbaum, State Treasurer Grady Patterson, State Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom, SC Farm Bureau President David Winkles, State Senator Nikki Setzler and other members of the Lexington County Legislative Delegation, Gilbert Mayor Phil Price, John W. Parris, State Director of Public Affairs with the SC FFA Association, and other agricultural and governmental leaders.
More than 50,000 people attended the 46th annual festival which is designed to recognize the importance of the peach industry to Lexington County and the state. South Carolina is the second highest peach producing state in the nation behind California.
