SC YOUTH TO OBSERVE NATIONAL FFA WEEK
COLUMBIA, SC…Agricultural Education students at Clemson University and more than 100 secondary schools in South Carolina will join with nearly 500,000 FFA members throughout the nation in the observance of National FFA Week, February 19-26, 2005, according to John W. Parris, State Director of Public Affairs with the SC FFA Association.
The purpose of the observance is to increase public awareness and appreciation for the nation’s outstanding agricultural education youth organization which was established in 1928 as the Future Farmers of America. The name was changed in recent years to more appropriately recognize the 300 career opportunities for FFA members in the science, business and technology of a diverse agriculture industry.
There are FFA chapters in all fifty states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, including many in the nation’s largest cities. The FFA is known and respected as a superb leadership development organization for youth interested in agriculture.
The FFA motto---“Learning to Do, Doing to Learn, Earning to Live and Living to Serve” underscores the commitment of members of the organization to keep America’s agriculture industry the strongest in the world.
The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
