SOUTH CAROLINA STUDENTS NAMED NATIONAL FFA SCHOLARS IN 2004
COLUMBIA, SC…..Five South Carolina students were named National FFA Scholars in 2004 by the National FFA Foundation and awarded college scholarships, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA.James Cameron, a member of the York FFA Chapter, was awarded a $1000 scholarship sponsored by the Dodge Division/DaimlerChrysler Corporation Fund. His FFA Advisor is Frank Sandifer, Agricultural Education Teacher at the Floyd D. Johnson Technology Center in York.
Peter Wilson, a member of the Chester FFA Chapter, was awarded a $1500 scholarship sponsored by Monsanto Company/National Farm Broadcasters Association-Commitment to Agriculture Fund. His FFA Advisor is Kip Beam, Agricultural Education Teacher at the Chester County Career Center.
Rachel Jerrard, a member of the Crescent FFA Chapter, was awarded a $1500 scholarship sponsored by Monsanto Company/National Farm Broadcasters Association-Commitment to Agriculture Fund. Her FFA Advisors are Chris Corzine and Josh McCall, Agricultural Education Teachers at Crescent High School in Iva, SC.
Darla Simons, a member of the Strom Thurmond FFA Chapter, was awarded a $1000 scholarship sponsored by Ford Trucks/Built Ford Tough. She as one of five National Scholarship winners to be selected by Ford to receive an additional $1000 scholarship in 2004. Her FFA Advisors are Hugh Bland and Dan Henderson, Agricultural Education Teachers at the Strom Thurmond Technology Center, Johnston, SC.
Joshua Wilkerson, a member of the York FFA Chapter, was also awarded a $1500 scholarship sponsored by Monsanto Company/National Farm Broadcasters-Commitment to Agriculture Fund. His FFA Advisor is Frank Sandifer, Agricultural Education Teacher at the Floyd D. Johnson Technology Center.
“The National FFA Foundation awards more than $2 million dollars annually to FFA members throughout the nation. Funding support for this unique program is provided by agri-businesses and individuals”, Parris said.
The major factors used in selecting recipients of these prestigious scholarships are academic achievement, including grade point average, ACT or SAT score and Class Rank (Number 1 in graduating class equals one-third of the points in this category), Leadership in the FFA and community activities and their Supervised Agricultural Experience Program.
