WAGGONER WINS STATE DAIRY SCHOLARSHIP

COLUMBIA, SC….Emily Waggoner, a senior at Pendleton High School and president of the FFA Chapter, has been awarded a $2000 college scholarship by the South Carolina Farm Bureau Federation at the 2004 State Fair, according to John W. Parris, State Director of Public Affairs with the SC FFA.
She was awarded the scholarship based on her outstanding accomplishments in dairy cattle production and showmanship. Requirements to compete for the scholarship included a written test on the dairy industry, dairy cattle showmanship, dairy judging, an interview with dairy professionals and a record book of her accomplishments in dairying.
Emily, the recipient of the Premier Dairy Breeder Award at the Anderson County Fair, also won a $500 scholarship sponsored by the Anderson County Farm Bureau for her showmanship skills. She showed the Junior Champion, Senior Champion and Grand Champion Jerseys in the Junior and Open Shows at Anderson.
She showed the Second Place Best Bred and Owned Jersey in the Georgia National Fair at Perry, Georgia earlier this year.
A member of the 2004 State FFA Officer Nominating Committee, she is a Student Council Representative and a member of the Beta Club. She also served as a Chemical Safety Instructor at the PROGRESSIVE FARMER-sponsored Safety Day Camp held at the Garrison Livestock Arena this summer.
An Honor Student at Pendleton High School, she has received the Principal’s Leadership Award and named a Clemson University Coca-Cola Scholar.
Emily is a daughter of Steve and Kitty Waggoner of Pendleton. Her FFA Advisor is Garrett Howard, Agricultural Education Teacher at Pendleton.
