COLUMBIA, SC….David Dorn, a graduate of Calhoun Falls Highs School where he served as an officer of the FFA chapter, was awarded the American FFA Degree at the National FFA Convention held recently in Louisville, KY, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.
“This prestigious national agricultural education award is presented to a select number of outstanding FFA members from throughout the United States each year”, Parris said. “Criteria for selection is based on the student’s successful supervised agricultural experience program, academic achievement and leadership ability”, he added.
More than 50,000 FFA members, representing every state in the nation, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, attended the convention along with agricultural education teachers, school administrators, parents, sponsors and other supporters.
The entire convention, including the American FFA Degree Ceremony, was televised live nationally by the RFD-TV Satellite Network with Orion Samuelson and Mac Armstrong, co-hosts of the nationally televised US Farm Report, as anchors.
David, the son of Michael and Rhonda Dorn of Calhoun Falls, attended Erskine College and is now attending a Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. His FFA Advisor is Calvert Sherard, Agricultural Education teacher at Calhoun Falls High School.
The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
