SC FFA MEMBERS NAMED FARM BUREAU AMBASSADOR SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS

COLUMBIA, SC….FFA members William Nelson of Laurens and Allison Waggoner of Pendleton were named State Youth Ambassadors for 2006 by the SC Farm Bureau at their recent annual conference held in Myrtle Beach, according to John W. Parris, State Director of Public Affairs with the SC FFA Association.

Nelson and Waggoner each received $500 in cash, an Apple iPod nano MP3 recorder/player and a $1500 college scholarship. As Youth Ambassadors, they will have an opportunity to meet with various state agricultural and government leaders and make selected appearances coordinated by the SC Farm Bureau Promotion and Education Division.

The Youth Ambassador Program, sponsored by the SC Farm Bureau Women’s Committee, is designed to recognize young leaders who can communicate the agriculture story to audiences who may not otherwise hear it and to emphasize that student interest in agriculture as a career is alive and well.

Nelson is a junior at Laurens District 55 High School. His FFA Advisor is Melanie Birchmore, Agricultural Education Teacher at the school. Waggoner is a junior at Clemson University. Her FFA Advisor is Garrett Howard, Agricultural Education Teacher at Pendleton High School.

FFA members interested in competing in the 2006 Youth Ambassador Program should contact their county Farm Bureau office or call Faith Lawrimore at the State Farm Bureau Headquarters in Columbia at 803-936-4287.
