GILBERT, SC…..Gilbert Primary School students, faculty and administrators are experiencing a school-wide integrated curriculum known as “Down On The Farm In Gilbert” throughout the school year, according to Loretta Arnette, Principal of the school.
Gilbert Primary School Second Grade students (left to right) Loren Lindler, Ashley Amick, Dillon Waters and Emileigh Shumpert with John W. Parris ( at left in back) and Al Arnette. The hallways and classrooms are attractively decorated with displays highlighting agriculture. Pictures of barns, tractors, trees, poultry, and a sign about milk, just to name a few, line the walls to tell the story of agriculture in such a unique way. The displays were made by students with assistance from teachers and volunteers from the community.
A major feature of recent weeks were two beautiful Christmas trees on display in the school lobby decorated with student-made ornaments created from agricultural products.
John W. Parris, State Director of Public Affairs with the SC FFA Association, visited the school and enjoyed Christmas Lunch with the students and faculty on December 15. He was accompanied by Al Arnette, President of the Gilbert High School FFA Chapter. Local FFA members and their advisor, Derrick Cooper, assisted the Primary School experience agriculture by sponsoring “Farm Day”.
“This is the most impressive school-wide promotion of agricultural education I have ever seen in my visits to schools across the state,” Mr. Parris said. “Mrs. Arnette, the faculty, students, and all of the volunteers who made this special integrated curriculum a reality are to be commended,” he added.
