SOUTH CAROLINIANS RECEIVE NATIONAL FFA AWARD

 COLUMBIA, SC….Six South Carolinians were presented the Honorary American FFA Degree at the National FFA Convention held in Louisville, KY, October 26-29, according to John W. Parris, State Director of Public Affairs with the SC FFA Association.

Those who received the prestigious national agricultural award were: Willett Wooten, Hometowner Editor with the INDEPENDENT-MAIL, Anderson, SC; Dr. J. Carroll Wates, Director of the Strom Thurmond Technology Center, Johnston; Wesley Harris, Chief Farm Loan Officer, USDA Farm Service Agency, Columbia; Charles Wingard, Co-owner of the Walter P. Rawl and Sons Farms, Pelion; Tommy Harmon, Agricultural Education Teacher, Lexington Technology Center, Lexington; and Billy Keels, State Director of Agricultural Education with Clemson University, Columbia, SC.

“The Honorary American FFA Degree is the highest award available to friends and supporters of the FFA at the national level”, Parris said. “ Recipients are recognized for their superb leadership and support of the FFA”, he added.

The National FFA Organization is made up of more than 490,000 students of agricultural education from every state in the nation, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
