KEOWN NAMED MEMBER OF PENDLETON FARMERS SOCIETY

COLUMBIA, SC….Tim R. Keown of Iva, SC, has been selected for membership in the prestigious and historic Pendleton Farmers Society. He was recommended by John W. Parris, State Director of Public Affairs with the SC Agricultural Educators Association.

Keown, a former member of the Crescent High School FFA, is a graduate of Clemson University with a BS Degree in Agricultural Education and is presently pursuing a MS Degree with plans to teach in the future.

The Pendleton Farmers Society, organized in 1815, meets at the Farmers Hall which was constructed in l828 on the square in Pendleton. It is the oldest farmers hall in continuous use in the nation.

It was in this Hall that Thomas Green Clemson, a former president of the Society, first discussed plans for establishing a land grant institution which became a reality and today is Clemson University.
