POWERS PARTICIPATES IN LEXINGTON COUNTY PEACH FESTIVAL

COLUMBIA, SC…A record breaking crowd welcomed State FFA Vice President Jacob Powers to the 47 annual Lexington County Peach Festival in Gilbert on Monday, July 4.

Jacob, a 2005 graduate of Lexington High School, rode in a red convertible ahead of the award-winning Gilbert FFA Chapter Float as thousands waved and cheered.

Following the parade, Jacob was joined by his parents, Jeff and Barb Powers; Gilbert FFA Chapter President Al Arnette and Vice President Clark Havird; Gilbert FFA Advisor Derrick Cooper and John W. Parris, State Director of Public Affairs with the SC FFA, at the Dignitaries Recognition Program and Luncheon where he met a number of South Carolina’s top agricultural and governmental leaders.

Jacob joined in congratulating the Gilbert FFA Chapter officers, members and advisor for designing and decorating the First Place Award Float in the Civic Non-Professionally Designed category. The Gilbert FFA officers were also recognized during the program.

Among the dignitaries in the parade and at the luncheon included US Senator Lindsey Graham; US Congressman Joe Wilson; State Commissioner of Agriculture Hugh Weathers, State Treasurer Grady L. Patterson, State Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom, State Superintendent of Education Inez Tenenbaum, State Senators Jakie Knotts, Nikki Setzler and Tommy Moore, and most of the members of the House of Representatives from Lexington County. State Farm Bureau President David Winkles was also in attendance.

Al Harman of Gilbert, a former State FFA President, presided at the Dignitaries Recognition Program and Luncheon.
