SC FFA MEMBERS PARTICIPATE IN STATE FAIR EVENTS
COLUMBIA, SC….FFA members, their advisors, parents, school administrators, government officials and other supporters participated in a record-breaking attendance at the SC FFA Recognition Luncheon held in conjunction with the State Fair in Columbia, October 12, 2005, according to John W. Parris, State Director of Public Affairs with the SC FFA Association.
The Luncheon Program was presided over by Stephen Tyner, State FFA President, a freshman at Clemson University, from McBee.
The event began with the Presentation of Colors by the Manning High School FFA Color Guard with Lane Ham as Commander, and the singing of the National Anthem by Jessica Hook, President of the Lexington FFA Chapter.

Parris Agricultural Education Award by Steve McCannon, President of the SC Agricultural Educators Association, who sponsors the annual recognition program.
Gary Goodman, General Manager of the SC State Fair, addressed the group and praised the FFA for their excellent support of and participation in the State Fair.
Other State FFA Officers participating in the program were Emily Waggoner, Jacob Powers, Michael Burdette and Jason Gore who recognized a number of distinguished guests, including FFA alumnus and State Treasurer Grady Patterson; State Champion Career Development Event Teams and Individuals; Gold Emblem FFA Chapters; Outstanding Agricultural Educators and others.
Three distinguished South Carolinians who were presented the Honorary State FFA Degree included Walter W. Douglas, State Conservationist, USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service; Dr. Bill Gallman, Deputy Superintendent of Aiken County Schools; and Nick McNair, Vice President, AgFirst Farm Credit Bank.

In addition to participation in the Luncheon, FFA members from throughout the state competed in Beef, Dairy, Swine and Wether Goat Showmanship categories and the scholarship program sponsored by the SC Farm Bureau. Samuel Hall, a member of the York FFA Chapter, won a $2500 scholarship in the Beef category. Emily Nance, also of the York FFA Chapter, won the $2000 Dairy scholarship. Keri Perdue, a member of the Chesterfield FFA Chapter, won the $1500 Swine Scholarship and Kathryn Keller, another member of the York FFA Chapter, won a $1000 scholarship in the Wether Goat category.

The Aiken High School and Marion Technical Education Center FFA Chapters grew, contributed, and arranged the mums and other flowering plants to beautify the interior of the State Fair Livestock Arena.
The SC FFA Association Exhibit, located in the Livestock Arena this year, was visited by hundreds of Fair attendees.
