STATE FFA OFFICERS ATTEND CLEMSON’S AGRICULTURE, FORESTRY AND LIFE SCIENCES TAILGATE EVENT

COLUMBIA, SC….. State FFA President Stephen Tyner, McBee, a freshman at Clemson; Jacob Powers, State Vice President, Lexington, a freshman at Spartanburg Technical College; State FFA Secretary Emily Waggoner, Pendleton, a freshman at Clemson; and Michael Burdette, Calhoun Falls, a freshman at Erskine College, attended the Clemson University College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences Tailgate Event held in the Fike Recreation Center on the Clemson campus on Saturday, September 24, 2005.

A highlight of their participation in the event was the opportunity to meet Clemson University President James Barker and his wife, Marcia. Emily Waggoner offered the invocation at the Program and Stephen Tyner introduced fellow Clemson University student Doug McCormick of McBee, a nationally recognized entertainer and FFA member, for a musical presentation to close the program.

The State FFA officers were introduced during the Tailgate Program and all FFA members and Agricultural Educators in attendance were welcomed to the Clemson-Boston College Football Game over the public address system and the large screen in the end zone during the game. The recognition of FFA members and Agricultural Education Teachers, a special feature of the CAFLS Tailgate event, was coordinated by John W. Parris, State Director of Public Affairs with the SC FFA Association, and Kirby Player, an official in the Office of the Dean of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences at Clemson.

Agricultural Education Teacher W. Pat Earle at McBee, M. Pat Black, Agricultural Education Teacher at Branchville, and John W. Parris, Columbia, are members of Clemson University’s National Agricultural Alumni Board which co-hosts the Tailgate Event.
