THURMOND FFA TEAM HEADED TO NATIONAL FINALS

COLUMBIA, SC….The Strom Thurmond Technology Center FFA Agronomy Team took first place honors in the State Finals held at the State Fair Grounds in Columbia recently, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.

Team members Parker Northrop, Kyle Harper, Jessica Gibson and Graham Holson along with their advisor Hugh Bland, Agricultural Education teacher at the Center, were awarded expense-paid trips to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, October 25-28, to participate in the National Agronomy Finals. Parker Northrop was the high individual scorer and Kyle Harper was the fifth high scorer in the overall state competition.

Abbeville FFA members Tim Stanley, Cliff Porter, Kyle Fuller and Caroline Sherard were named the Runner-up Team in the state competition. Tim Stanley was the second high individual scorer in the event. They were coached by Blake Berry, a Clemson University Agricultural Education senior who has been practice teaching at Abbeville this semester under the supervision of Fred Raines, Agricultural Education teacher.

McBee FFA members Kenneth Howle, Justin Threatt, Allen Wright and Justin Hawksworth placed third in the competition. Kenneth Howle was the third high scorer and Justin Threatt was the fourth high scorer in the state finals. They were coached by W. Pat Earle, Agricultural Education teacher at McBee High School.
