AUSTRALIAN AGRICULTURAL EDUCATOR VISITS SOUTH CAROLINA

Anthony and Dianne Heading of Queensland, Australia, spent August 17-19 in South Carolina studying agriculture education, production, processing, marketing, and research programs. Heading is a high school agricultural educator.

Their visit to the state was coordinated by Dr. Phil Fravel, a member of the Agricultural Education faculty at Clemson University, with assistance from Kendal Kirk, Tim Keown, Stephen Sanderson and John W. Parris.

The Headings were welcomed to Clemson by Dr. Calvin Schoulties, Dean of the College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences; and Agricultural Education Department faculty.

They visited the Caterpillar Plant, Simpsonville; McLeod Peach Farms, McBee; Coker Farms National Historic Landmark, Hartsville; Walter P. Rawl and Sons Farms, Pelion; Pelion High School Agricultural and Environmental Education Department; Edisto Research and Education Center, Blackville; and Happy Cow Creamery and 12 Aprils Dairy, Pelzer.

The Headings enjoyed a dinner meeting with the Sumter County Young Farmer-Agribusiness Chapter members and State Young Farmer-Agribusiness President Ricky McDaniel.

They also met with Stephen Tyner, McBee, President of the SC FFA Association; Blake Berry, Fountain Inn, past State FFA President; Alex Gleason, Calhoun Falls, past State FFA Vice President; Allen Wright, McBee, State FFA Extemporaneous Speaking winner; W. Pat Earle, Chairman of the State FFA Board of Directors and Agricultural Education teacher, McBee; Stephen Sanderson, Associate State Director of Agricultural Education, Sumter; and Keith Cox, State FFA Executive Secretary, Florence.
