HALL PRESENTS GOVERNOR SAMPLES OF LOCAL PRODUCE

COLUMBIA, SC…York FFA member Samuel Hall presented Governor Mark Sanford a flat of hydroponic tomatoes and a bucket of fresh-from-the field strawberries grown on his farm near York at the SC FFA-sponsored State Legislators Appreciation Ceremony held in Columbia recently, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the FFA organization.

Governor Sanford addressed the hundreds of FFA members, their advisors and supporters from throughout the state assembled on the north steps of the State Capitol.

Samuel and his parents, Bob and Susan Hall, owners and operators of Bush-N-Vine Farms and Certified Roadside Market located between York and Clover, are well known for their production and marketing of top quality fruit and vegetables utilizing the latest agricultural technology. Some of the technology, known as high tunnel greenhouses, is being used by the Hall’s to grow and market fresh-from-the field strawberries during the winter months. The hydroponic tomatoes are grown in a greenhouse and are marketed throughout the year.

A recipient of the SC Farm Bureau-sponsored $2500 Beef scholarship at the State Fair, Samuel is also a recipient of the Merrill-Lynch Young EntrepreneurAward presented by the SC Council on Economic Education.

Samuel will enter Clemson University this fall where he will major in agriculture. His FFA advisor is Frank Sandifer.

The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
