COLUMBIA, SC…Lee Harter, Editor of the TIMES and DEMOCRAT in Orangeburg, SC, has been awarded the Honorary State FFA Degree by the SC FFA Association, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the organization.
Harter was recognized for his superb reporting of agricultural news in the TIMES and DEMOCRAT, the only daily paper in South Carolina with a full page devoted to farm and garden news on a weekly basis. Articles about the FFA and agricultural education in the multi-county region are published regularly.
“The Honorary State FFA Degree is the highest award available to a supporter of the FFA in South Carolina,” Parris said. “Mr. Harter, a distinguished newspaper editor, has long been a friend of the FFA and is most deserving of this prestigious agricultural education honor”.
The award was presented to Mr. Harter by Blake Berry, a senior at Clemson University majoring in Agricultural Education and a member and former officer of the Collegiate FFA Organization. He is also a past president of the SC FFA Association.
The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
