COLUMBIA, SC….The Branchville High School FFA Chapter was recognized in Columbia on March 22 as a recipient of a $3500 Environmental Grant from the PalmettoPride organization, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.
Representing the Branchville FFA Chapter at the breakfast meeting were officers Benjamin Kinsey and Brett Ardis. Their advisor, M. Pat Black, Agricultural Education instructor at Branchville, also attended.
The PalmettoPride Challenge for the Environment Grant program is designed to educate elementary, middle and high school students and their communities about the importance of keeping the state clean and beautiful. The competitive grant requires recipients to develop and implement programs that will focus on anti-litter awareness, education, enforcement and pickup; ultimately changing the behavior that creates litter.
“The FFA Chapter will use their grant funds to purchase plants to landscape the town of Branchville and the Branchville High School grounds”, Mr. Black said.
State Senator David Thomas of Greenville serves as chairman of the PalmettoPride anti-litter organization and Rick Cothran, an FFA alumnus from Greenville, is the executive director.
PalmettoPride, South Carolina’s anti-litter organization, is leading the effort to make the state litter-free by unifying citizens, state agencies, law enforcement, statewide media, local organizations, the private sector and Keep America Beautiful and its affiliates.
