GOVERNOR MARK SANFORD TO ADDRESS FFA EVENT AT STATE CAPITOL
COLUMBIA, SC…Governor Mark Sanford will address the SC FFA-sponsored State Legislators Appreciation Day Ceremony at the State Capitol on Wednesday, February 22, 2006, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.
Following his remarks, the Governor will present a Proclamation on FFA Week to State FFA Officers Stephen Tyner, President, McBee; Emily Waggoner, Secretary, Pendleton; Jacob Powers, Vice President, Lexington; Michael Burdette, Vice President, Calhoun Falls; Shane Grice, Vice President, Warrenville; and Jason Gore, Vice President of Loris.
State Representative William D. Witherspoon, Chairman of the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee, will present a Concurrent Resolution passed by the House of Representatives and Senate commending South Carolina’s FFA members and advisors for their outstanding accomplishments in Agricultural Education.
State Senator Nikki Setzler of Lexington County will recognize the Lexington, Pelion and Gilbert FFA Chapters for their efforts to successfully restore the Horticulture program at the Wilcox Central High School in Camden, Alabama, which was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
“The FFA event at the State Capitol is a highlight of the observance of National FFA Week by students of Agricultural Education in South Carolina”, Parris said. “More than one thousand FFA members, agricultural educators, school administrators, governmental leaders, parents and other supporters are expected”, he added.
Manning High School FFA members Lane Ham, De-quan Williams, Allison Ragin and Mercedes Johnson will Present the Colors. Jessica Hook, President of the Lexington Technology Center, will sing the National Anthem and the Pendleton High School Band will present musical selections before the ceremony and during the program.
Some FFA members will be presented the American FFA Degree during the ceremony. This is the highest award available to a select group of outstanding members by the National FFA Organization.
