BLYTHEWOOD FFA FEATURED ON WIS-TV NEWS SHOW

COLUMBIA, SC…Blythewood High School FFA members and Advisor Tom Willingham were featured on Columbia’s WIS-TV Morning News Segment known as “Live With Lucas”, October 16, to launch the 2006 Farm-City Week Observance, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA Association. The Show originated from the Horticulture Department at Blythewood High School.

Blythewood FFA members and Mr. Willingham joined with representatives of the Richland County Farm-City Week Committee and Ducks Unlimited officials to present seven segments of hands-on activities during the two hour show.

Chapter President Marc E. Meddaugh II explained the National FFA Organization and discussed career opportunities available in the science, business or technology of agriculture. He shared his interest in majoring in Horticulture or Landscape Architecture at Clemson University upon graduation from high school.

Other FFA members shared with show host Lucas McFadden and thousands viewing the production how to create flower arrangements for nursing homes, tie a fishing line for the Reel Kids program, demonstrate the small engine class for adults, display wildlife habitat management techniques in cooperation with Ducks Unlimited and how to operate a zero turn turf mower, all on live TV.

The observance of Farm-City Week was also publicized to emphasize the importance of agriculture and the interdependence of the rural and urban sectors of society.

FFA Advisor Tom Willingham, Horticulture and Natural Resources Instructor at Blythewood High School, will serve as chairman of the Richland County Farm-City Week Executive Committee in 2007.
