CLEMSON, SC….Amanda Hiott, a member of the Barnwell County Career Center FFA Chapter and President of the SC FFA Association, has been named the Lower-State Regional FFA Star in Agribusiness for 2006 by the SC FFA Association, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA.
Amanda, a former employee of Clemson University’s Edisto Research and Education Center near Blackville, trained to be a cotton scout under the leadership of Dr. Jeremy Greene, a Cotton Entomologist. She scouted 1000 acres of cotton at the center and 400 acres on the Steve Sandifer Farm nearby.
In order to expand her experience in production agriculture, Amanda also worked for Walker Nix Poultry Farm where she was responsible for monitoring the egg production operation.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Craig Hiott of Williston, Amanda will attend Clemson University this fall to major in Pre-Veterinary Science.
Amanda’s FFA advisor is Mindy Sandifer, Agricultural Education teacher at the Barnwell County Career Center.
