HASTINGS NAMED REGIONAL FFA STAR FARMER

CLEMSON, SC…Wade Hastings, a member of the Strom Thurmond FFA Chapter, has been named the Mid-State Regional FFA Star Farmer by the SC FFA Association and recognized at Clemson University recently, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.

Wade is employed by Green Meadows Farm which is owned by Bucky Faust. The farming operation consists of four poultry houses which handles 128,000 chickens per flock and runs five flocks per year. Wade is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all equipment used in the poultry business on the farm.

In addition to his poultry production responsibilities, Wade is currently conducting an experiment utilizing six tons of chicken litter per acre to fertilize corn with no other nutrients added.

The son of Stanley and Renee Hastings of Edgefield, Wade plans to attend Horry-Georgetown Technical College next year.

His FFA advisors are Hugh Bland and Dan Henderson, Agricultural Education teachers at the Strom Thurmond Technology Center.
