CLEMSON, SC…The McBee High School FFA Chapter was named state winner in the Outstanding Student Development category for 2006 at the recent State FFA Convention held at Clemson University, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA.
Seventy percent of the student body are FFA members and all class officers in the high school are FFA members. Eighty five percent of all Honor Roll students at McBee are FFA members. The chapter has had a state FFA officer nine of the last 12 years and the State FFA Star Farmer or State FFA Star in Agribusiness 3 of the past 4 years. Fifty FFA members have been awarded the State FFA Degree over the past six years. The chapter also provides a $500 scholarship to one of its seniors who is going to major in agriculture in college.
W. Pat Earle, Agricultural Education teacher at McBee and a recent finalist for Outstanding Teacher in South Carolina, serves as chairman of the SC FFA Association Board of Directors.
Allen Wright, immediate past president of the McBee Chapter and FFA Advisor W. Pat Earle were presented the Governor’s Citation of Accomplishment by Larry Rogers, an official with the USDA Farm Service Agency which sponsors the National FFA Chapter Awards and Recognition Program.
Tom Walker, Executive Director of the SC Rural Rehabilitation Corporation which is a co-sponsor of the recognition program in South Carolina, presented the chapter a check for $1000 in recognition of their superb accomplishments.
The McBee Chapter will compete in the National FFA Chapter Recognition Program Finals at the National FFA Convention in October.
