MCMANUS RECEIVES NATIONAL FFA AWARD

COLUMBIA, SC…Gilmore McManus, Agricultural Education Teacher at Kingstree Senior High School, was awarded the Honorary American FFA Degree by the National FFA Organization during a nationally televised ceremony at the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, recently, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA Association.

“The Honorary American FFA Degree is the highest award presented by the 495,000 member National FFA Organization to a friend or supporter,” Parris said.

Mr. McManus is a graduate of South Carolina State University where he earned a BS Degree and Master’s Degree in Agricultural Education. He did additional study at Clemson University, the University of South Carolina and the University of Georgia. He also served two years in the United States Army.

A forty year veteran agricultural educator, Mr. McManus is a member of Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Andrews, SC, where he is a Deacon, Superintendent of Sunday School and Educational Coordinator for the Williamsburg Missionary Baptist Association.

A Thirty-Three Degree Mason, Mr. McManus is a member of Gideon Lodge Number 428, secretary of the Eleventh Masonic District and treasurer of the King Solomon Consistory. He is also a member of the Andrews Human Relations Council and a board member of the Waccamaw Mental Health Commission. He is a past president of the Georgetown Education Association

Mr. McManus, a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity where he serves as parliamentarian of the Eta Iota Chapter, is married to the former Diana Adamson and they have two sons and four grandchildren.
