MCBEE FFA AGRONOMY TEAM HEADED TO NATIONAL FINALS
COLUMBIA, SC…The McBee High School FFA Agronomy Team took first place honors in the State Finals held at the State Fair Grounds in Columbia recently, according to John W. Parris, spokesperson for the SC FFA organization.
Team members Kenneth Howle, Justin Hawksworth and Spencer McLeod along with their advisor Pat Earle were awarded expense-paid trips to the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, scheduled later this year to compete in the National Agronomy Finals. Kenneth, the high individual scorer, was joined by Justin as the second high scorer and Spencer as the third high scorer in the state competition.
Abbeville High School students Tim Stanley, Cliff Porter and Jacob Coursey were named the State Runner-Up team. They were coached by Fred Raines, Agricultural Education Instructor at Abbeville High School.
The Strom Thurmond Technology Center team made up of Dustin Lalonde, Dalton Lalonde, Jaime Flores and Crystal Burkhalter placed third in the state finals. They were coached by Hugh Bland, an Agricultural Education Instructor at the Center.
The Agronomy Career Development Event is co-sponsored by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service in concert with the SC FFA Association.
