EASLEY, SC…The B.J. Skelton Career Center FFA Chapter held its annual Recognition Banquet and Program in the Fellowship Hall of the Pickens First Baptist Church, March 1, 2007, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA Association.
“More than 200 people, including FFA members, agricultural educators, school administrators, parents and sponsors, attended the inspiring event,” Mr. Parris said. “The officers did a superb job carrying out their responsibilities to make the program informative and successful,” he added.

Skelton Career Center FFA Chapter, welcomes Katie McCannon, State FFA Vice President, who was the keynote speaker.The keynote speaker was Katie McCannon, State Vice President of the SC FFA Association, who challenged the students to take advantage of the opportunities available through the FFA to enhance their preparation for college and a career. She also encouraged each member to support other members through their actions and to appreciate the contributions each member makes. She illustrated this point by asking the question, “Who packs your Parachute?” Katie, a senior at Pendleton High School, is the daughter of Steve and Nancy McCannon of Pendleton, SC.
Abbie Piotrowsky, an Agri-Science and Technology Instructor at the Career Center, and Gene Ragsdale, a staff member at the Center, were presented the prestigious Honorary FFA Chapter Degree for their outstanding support of the FFA and the Agricultural Education.
Caitlin Raines was presented the FFA Chapter Star Farmer Award and Jessica Mitchell received the FFA Star Greenhand Award.
Finalists in the Exemplary Member Award category were Courtney Bridges, Horticulture 2; Emilee Barnes, Horticulture 1; Cassi Young, Agri-Technology 2; Brandi Aiken, Horticulture 1 and Caitlin Raines, Agri-Technology 1, who was named winner of the FFA Chapter Exemplary Member Award.
Outstanding FFA members by class are Steven Smith (left), Aaron Porter, Cassi Young, Angelia Knox, and Lindsay Childs.
Students recognized as the Outstanding FFA Members by class were Steven Smith, 9 th grade; Aaron Porter, 10 th grade; Angelia Knox, 11 th grade; Cassi Young and Lindsay Childs, 12 th grade.
FFA advisors at the B.J. Skelton Career Center are David Jensen, Steve McCannon, Abbie Piotrowsky.
Agri-Science and Technology students at the B.J. Skelton Career Center are affiliated with the National FFA Organization which has more than 495,000 members in over 7200 chapters representing every state, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agriculture education.
