BARNWELL FFA MEMBERS ATTEND NATIONAL WESTERN STOCK SHOW

DENVER, COLORADO…A group of FFA members and parents led by Mindy Sandifer, FFA Advisor at the Barnwell County Career Center, Barnwell, SC, arrived in Denver, Colorado, Wednesday evening, January 10, to attend the 101 st National Western Stock Show, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA Association. The group departed the Columbia Metropolitan Airport on Wednesday afternoon, January 10, and is expected to return to South Carolina on Monday, January 15.

The National Western Stock Show, known as the Super Bowl of livestock and horse shows, is the world’s largest stock show by total attendance and number of animals exhibited.

Expected attendance at this year’s show, January 6-21, should exceed 700,000. There were more than 18,000 entries in the 2006 Horse Shows which included Quarter Horses, Paint Horses, Hunters and Jumpers, USEF Open Horse Shows, Mule Shows, and the Draft Horse Show and Pull.

The National Western Rodeo is nationally recognized as one of the largest indoor rodeos and has won a number of honors, including multiple “Indoor Rodeo of the Year” titles.

Beef Shows will include the Steer and Heifer Show, Commercial Heifer Show, the Colorado Cattlemen’s Association Producer’s Show, and the FFA Beef Heifer Wrangle.

The mission of the National Western Stock Show is to preserve the western lifestyle by providing a showcase for the agricultural industry through emphasis on education, genetic development, innovative technology and offering the world’s larges agricultural marketing opportunities.
