BRUNER PRESENTED TOP STATE FFA AWARD

Mrs. Sara F. Bruner of Batesburg-Leesville, publisher and editor of the TWIN-CITY NEWS, was presented the Honorary State FFA Degree at a special ceremony at Batesburg-Leesville High School on Thursday, March 15, 2007, hosted by the Batesburg-Leesville FFA Chapter.

In presenting the award to Mrs. Bruner, Amanda Hiott, State FFA President of Williston, SC, and Clemson University, said “this is the highest award available to friends and supporters of the FFA at the State level. “Mrs. Bruner was selected for this prestigious honor because of her superb leadership in promoting the FFA and Agricultural Education through the TWIN-CITY NEWS,” Miss Hiott added.

Participants in the ceremony were: Libby Hrlic, agri-science and technology instructor and FFA advisor at Batesburg-Leesville High School; Holly Caughman. president of the Batesburg-Leesville FFA Chapter; Ariel Fox, secretary of the FFA chapter; John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA Association; and Keith Cox, associate state director of Agricultural Education at Clemson University and state FFA executive secretary.

Other guests at the event included Doug Bruner of Batesburg-Leesville, son of the honoree; Frank R. Stover, Sr., of Pelion, executive director of the SC FFA Foundation, and his wife, Betty; Hugh McClimon of Anderson, chairman of the SC FFA Foundation; Benjie Rikard, chairman of the board of trustees of Lexington School District Three; Dr. William Gummerson, superintendent of District Three Schools; Thomas Sparks, assistant superintendent for instruction; Pat Padgett, principal of the Batesburg-Leesville High School; Judy Turner Fox, director of public information with the school district; Frank R. Stover, Jr., agri-science and technology instructor and FFA advisor at Pelion High School; Derrick Cooper, FFA advisor and agri-science and technology instructor at Gilbert High School; Kevin Sox and Stephanie Moore, Clemson University seniors majoring in Agricultural Education who are practice teaching at Pelion and Lexington; FFA officers and members from Batesburg-Leesville, Pelion and Gilbert High Schools; and a host of friends from the Batesburg-Leesville area.

The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
