MISS FFA PAGEANT HELD AT CRESCENT HIGH SCHOOL

IVA, SC…Thirty one young ladies from throughout South Carolina competed in the MISS FFA BENEFIT PAGEANT hosted recently by the Crescent High School FFA Chapter to raise funds for breast cancer research.

Cameron Burns, president of the Pendleton FFA Chapter, was named winner of the MISS FFA Pageant. Barnwell FFA member Kayla Jo Nix was named Runner-Up and Jane Snead, a member of the Belton-Honea Path FFA Chapter, was named Second Runner-Up. Hillcrest FFA member Savannah Groce was named Miss Congeniality and Heather Hawkins, a member of the Crescent FFA, was named the Signature Princess for raising the most funds through the signature support competition. Crescent FFA member Stephanie Cocchia was awarded a $500 scholarship by Crescent Young Farmer-Agribusiness Chapter President Jeremy Holtzclaw for being the highest placing participant in the pageant from Crescent High School. Jolie Brown, the 2006 Miss FFA winner and member of the Anderson FFA Chapter, crowned the pageant winners.

The pageant was held in honor of Mrs. Jennifer Christenbury, a breast cancer survivor, who lives in Iva, SC, with her husband, Mike, and their three children, Graylin, Kaitlin, and newborn Amberlyn. Mrs. Christenbury, a teacher at Iva Elementary School and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Iva, never stopped fighting this terrible disease from the time she was first diagnosed. She immediately organized and participated in several breast cancer awareness programs and events. A true FFA supporter, Mrs. Christenbury participates in the 3 Day Walk for Breast Cancer held in Atlanta, Georgia, annually. All proceeds from the pageant will be donated to this event in her honor, according to Tim Keown and Roger Estridge, FFA advisors at Crescent High School.

Addrian Wilson, Minister of Music at the First Baptist Church of Iva, served as Master of Ceremonies and Crescent FFA member Ashlee Sims served as Mistress of Ceremonies. Special music for the pageant was provided by Broken Walls Band of Iva, SC.

Judges for the pageant were Mrs. Jennifer Christenbury, Mrs. Elaine Vierling of Iva, SC, and Dr. Tom Dobbins of Townville, SC.

Crescent FFA members John Davis, Ryan Hammond, Jesse Huff and Reese Shaw served as escorts.

Special guests included State FFA Secretary Ashton Berry of Saluda and John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA Association.

Platinum sponsors for the pageant were MCI Supply of Anderson, RWI Supply of Anderson, Amberly’s Bridal and Formal of Anderson, and the Crescent Young Farmer-Agribusiness Chapter.

Gold sponsors were Anderson-Winnleson Company, Red Davis Plumbing. Brian Henry and Family Farm, Shalimar Homes, and The Peoples Bank.

Silver sponsors were Vickery’s Heating and Air, Tim and Abby Busby, Valerie’s Diner, Young’s Plumbing, R and R Heating and Air, Headlines Hair Company, Estridge Farms, and Iva Drug Store.
