CLEMSON, SC….The Laurens High School FFA Dairy Evaluation Team took first place honors in the state finals held at Clemson University according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.
Team members Alison Stokes, Melvin McClellion, Candice Crane and Brittany Powell along with Melanie Birchmore, Agricultural Education Instructor at Laurens District 55 High School, were awarded expense-paid trips to the National FFA Convention to compete in the National Dairy Evaluation Finals set for Indianapolis, Indiana in October. Alison Stokes was the second high individual scorer and Brittany Powell was the third high scorer.
Cheraw High School students William Maier who was the high individual scorer, Jonathan Hammonds and Terry Ritz took the State Runner-up title. Robert Bollier is the Agricultural Education Instructor at Cheraw High School.
York team members Josh Estes, Holly Canipe, Tara Howell and Kelly Howell placed third in the state finals. Their advisor is Frank Sandifer, Agricultural Education Instructor at the Floyd D. Johnson Technology Center in York.
The State Dairy Evaluation competition is co-sponsored by the Clemson University Spring Dairy Exposition and the SC FFA Association.
