THURMOND TEAM WINS FFA DIVISION OF STATE ENVIROTHON

The Strom Thurmond Technology Center Team took first place honors in the FFA Division of the State Envirothon held at the Sandhill Research and Education Center near Columbia in May, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA organization.

Team members Josh McIlvried, Jonathan Holmes, Ryan Burns, Angel Henderson and Jessica Gibson along with their advisor, Hugh Bland, were awarded expense paid trips to the National FFA Convention by the SC Chapter of the Soil and Water Conservation Society. They will compete in the National FFA Environmental and Natural Resources Finals while at the convention.

The team also placed third in the overall Envirothon and each student was awarded a $125 scholarship.

Calhoun Falls team members Brittany Rhodes, Katrina Brooks, Kelsey Powell, Chelsea Kidd and Scott Sherard placed second in the FFA Division. They were coached by Calvert Sherard, Agricultural Education Instructor and FFA advisor at Calhoun Falls High School.

Loris team members Derek Booth, Adam Gore, Jamin Floyd, Jamison Lewis and Marcel Rossignol placed third in the FFA Division. They were coached by Nate Bellamy, Agricultural Education Instructor and FFA advisor at Loris High School.
