Representative Robert Walker presents Governor’s Proclamation to Amanda Hiott.SC FFA MEMBERS CELEBRATE FFA WEEK AT STATE CAPITOL
COLUMBIA, SC…A record-breaking number of hundreds of FFA members from throughout the state, including the Clemson University Collegiate FFA Organization, convened in Columbia on Wednesday, February 21, for State Legislators Appreciation Day and a National FFA Week Observance Luncheon.
The observance got underway at 6:40 AM at WIS-TV studios in downtown Columbia where Jennifer Himburg, National FFA Vice President was interviewed by News Anchor Hannah Horne.
South Carolina agricultural education administrators and faculty from Clemson University, the State FFA officers, and Clemson Collegiate FFA members and guests from Alabama, Indiana and North Carolina, attended a 7:30 AM breakfast at the Capital City Club.

and National FFA Vice President.The FFA officers and officials visited with State Representative Robert Walker of Landrum, Chairman of the House Education and Public Works Committee and an FFA alumnus; and State Representative William D. Witherspoon of Conway, Chairman of the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee and an FFA alumnus. The National FFA Vice president and FFA officers from South Carolina and North Carolina were introduced to the House of Representatives while in Session by Representatives Witherspoon and Walker.
FFA members and advisors from chapters throughout the state visited their legislators during the morning and many were introduced to the House of Representatives while in Session.
The first official State FFA Week Observance Luncheon was held at Seawell’s Restaurant in Columbia where State Representative Robert Walker presented the FFA members a Proclamation signed by Governor Mark Sanford designating February 17-24 as FFA Week in South Carolina. The Governor’s Proclamation complimented the organization for encouraging its members to discover and prepare for one of the more than 300 careers in the science, business or technology of agriculture.

Representative Marion FryeIn addition, State Representative Marion Frye of Leesville, a sub-committee chairman of the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee and an FFA alumnus, presented the FFA group a Concurrent Resolution sponsored by all of the members of the House of Representatives and concurred to by the Senate. The resolution recognized the outstanding leadership skills, impressive academic achievements and superb supervised agricultural experience programs of FFA members in South Carolina.
National FFA Vice President Jennifer Himburg of Ariton, Alabama, addressed the hundreds assembled and praised the members of the General Assembly for their support of the FFA in South Carolina.
