GILBERT FFA FLORICULTURE TEAM TO COMPETE IN NATIONAL FINALS

The Gilbert High School FFA Floriculture Team took first place honors in the state finals held at Spartanburg Community College recently, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA Association.

Team members Samantha Mack, Alec Bruner, Amanda Helm and Ryan Leech along with Horticulture Instructor and FFA Advisor Ann Holstein were awarded expense-paid trips by the SC FFA Association to attend the National FFA Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, to compete in the national finals in October. Ryan Leech tied for the second high individual scorer in the state competition.

Lexington Technology Center FFA members Lindsey Motes, Ilya Timtchenko, Anna Burns and Suzette Sharpe were recognized as the Runner-Up team in the state finals. Suzette Sharpe was the high individual scorer and Lindsey Motes tied for second high scorer in the competition. Their coach and FFA advisor is Tommy Harmon, Horticulture Instructor at the center.

Thurmond Technology Center team members Jessica Morgan, Tracie Morgan, Rebecca Hastings and Brandi Bearden came in third in the state finals. Their coach and FFA advisor is Hugh Bland, Horticulture Instructor at the center.
