GILBERT FFA RODEO WAS A GREAT SUCCESS

GILBERT, SC….A record-breaking crowd from throughout the southeast attended the two-day Gilbert High School FFA Rodeo at the Murray Town Circle B Arena near Gilbert on October 20 and 21, 2006, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA Association. “The support of the community for the Rodeo was as great as I have ever observed for an FFA event,” Parris said.

The Rodeo, affiliated with the Southern Rodeo Association, was professionally produced by Rockin’R Rodeo, LLC, and Herndon Chevrolet of Lexington, SC, was the primary sponsor. A number of other supporters purchased large advertising signs which were prominently displayed around the arena.

Rodeo performers came from Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee, and South Carolina. Highlights included Bareback Bronc Riding, Steer Wrestling, Saddle Bronc Riding, Cowgirls' Break-a-way Roping, Bull Riding, Cowgirls' Barrel Racing, Team Roping, and Calf Roping.

FFA Advisor Derrick Cooper, an Agricultural Education Instructor at Gilbert High School, expressed appreciation to the hundreds of friends and supporters who made the Rodeo a great success. “All proceeds from the event will go to support programs of the Gilbert FFA Chapter,” he said.

The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
