LEXINGTON FFA NURSERY-LANDSCAPE TEAM TO HEADED
THE NATIONAL FINALS

COLUMBIA, SC….The Lexington Technology Center FFA Nursery-Landscape Team took first place honors in the state finals held recently at Spartanburg Community College and hosted by the Horticulture Technology Department, according to John W. Parris, state director of public affairs with the SC FFA Association.

Team members Will Amick, Emily Ivey, Hannah Hammond and Justin Ballew along with FFA Advisor Tommy Harmon were awarded expense-paid trips by the SC FFA Association to attend the National FFA Convention in October to compete in the national finals. Justin Ballew was the high individual scorer in the overall state competition. Stephanie Moore, a senior at Clemson University majoring in Agricultural Education who is practice teaching at the center under the supervision of Mr. Harmon, assisted in coaching the team.

The Anderson School District I & II Technology Center team was named State Runner-Up in the competition. Team members Jessica Nimmons, Halston Thompson and Spencer Brown were coached by Audi Green, Horticulture Instructor at the Center. Christina Lucia, a senior at Clemson University majoring in Agricultural Education presently practice teaching at the center under the supervision of Mr. Green, assisted in coaching the team.

The Anderson Team from the Hanna-Westside campus of District Five Schools took Third Place honors. Team members Brittany Ellett, Anna Kate Waters, Abi Stringer and Alex Dalton were coached by Darla Simons, a senior at Clemson University majoring in Agricultural Education who is practice teaching in Anderson under the supervision of Jay Copelan, Horticulture Instructor and FFA advisor.

The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through Agricultural Education.
