SC HORTICULTURE STUDENTS TO PRESENT FLOWERS TO BEAUTIFY STATE HOUSE GROUNDS

Horticulture students and their instructors from secondary schools throughout South Carolina will present thousands of beautiful flowering plants to state officials at a special ceremony on the State House steps, Wednesday, April 18, at 11:00 AM, according to John W. Parris, spokesperson for the SC FFA Association. “The students are members of the National FFA Organization, widely recognized as the nation’s premier youth agricultural organization,” Mr. Parris said.

Students have grown these plants as part of their hands-on training in Horticulture, Greenhouse Management or Landscape Technology courses taught by Agricultural/Horticultural Education instructors across the state. The plants will be planted immediately following the presentation ceremony.

State officials expected to participate in the ceremony include State Commissioner of Agriculture Hugh Weathers; State Senator Larry Grooms, Chairman of the Senate Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee; State Representative Billy Witherspoon, Chairman of the House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee; and State Representative Robert Walker, Chairman of the House Education and Public Works Committee.

The Presentation of Flowers to Beautify the State House Grounds is a jointly-sponsored project of the SC FFA Association and the SC Association of Agricultural Educators, .

The mission of the FFA is to make a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education.
